The month “Elul” is a Hebrew acronym for Ani l’dodi v’dodi li —“I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.” Though this is an allegory of the love relationship between God and the people Israel, this famous verse is recited under the chuppah and has inspired Jewish poets and songwriters throughout the ages.
